English - Poetry

This week in year 6, the children have been learning about refugees and the reasons behind why they are forced to leave their countries, homes and families. We have looked at the poem, 'Refugees' by Brian Bilston (attached) which has proved an incredibly powerful tool in allowing children to see how refugees can be viewed by some but also the way in which we have a duty and responsibility to care for those who are worse off than ourselves. It's a palindrome poem and when you read it initially it gives one perspective, but then you read it in reverse and it provides the opposite perspective.
