School Uniform

It is our school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. We have provided a complete list of our uniform requirements and the items needed.

Aims and Objectives

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:

  • Promotes a sense of pride in the school;
  • Engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school;
  • Supports positive behaviour and discipline;
  • Practical, affordable and smart;
  • Makes children feel equal and encourages cohersion;
  • Is designed with health and safety in mind.
  • Supports sustainability.

Uniform Policy

Uniform List

  • Grey trousers, grey skirt or pinafore dress.
  • Green and white gingham dress or grey school shorts (optional in Summer).
  • Forest green school badged sweatshirt or cardigan.
  • White polo shirt.
  • Black school shoes (if your child brings Wellington boots please ensure that they are marked with the child’s name, then peg them together and place in the outdoor boot boxes provided).

PE

PE is a legal requirement of the National Curriculum and, as such, children must be suitably equipped. PE Kit is:

  • School black hooded top and jogging bottoms.
  • Black shorts (optional in Summer).
  • White t shirt (does not need school logo badge).
  • Plimsolls or trainers.
  • Pupils with long hair must have their hair tied back in PE and swimming lessons.

Jewellery

On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school.

Reasonable exceptions to the rule that jewellery should not be worn might include the wearing of watches provided they do not have the capability to take photographs, record sound or connect to the internet due to safeguarding.

The second exception is the use of “studs” by children who have recently had their ears pierced. Parents must supply plasters to cover them at all times. It should be noted that ear rings must be removed 6 weeks after piercing.

Extreme Haircuts

The school does not permit children to have ‘extreme’ haircuts that could serve as a distraction to other children.

Footwear

The school wants all children to grow into healthy adults. We believe that it is dangerous for children to wear shoes that have platform soles or high heels, so we do not allow children to wear such shoes in our school.

Children cannot wear highly coloured ‘fashion’ trainers to school; this is because we think that this footwear is appropriate for sport or for leisurewear, but is not in keeping with the smart appearance of a school uniform. We require all children to wear shoes as stated in the uniform list.

The Role of Parents

We ask all parents/carers who send their children to our school to support the school uniform policy. We believe that parents/carers have a duty to send their children to school correctly dressed and ready for their daily schoolwork. One of the responsibilities of parents is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform, and that it is clean and in good repair. Please contact the office if you would like to obtain uniform items from our second hand supply or access our uniform swap days during the Summer Term.

Thank you for your support in this area.

St. Paul’s Team

Our uniform can be ordered online, from our uniform supplier, Emblematic or from BE Uniforms. In Spring 2022 we consulted with parents and carers. Their suggestions have been implemented where possible to reduce cost and ensure longevity.

The uniform is displayed in M A Tailoring, located in Bow Alley in Alnwick. Samples of the uniform are available to try on.

Could children wear a forest green polo shirt to promote sustainability?
Could children have a zipped PE hoody as an alternative?
