In 2016, pupils in Years 2 took the new style of teacher assessed SATs in reading, maths and grammar, punctuation and spelling for the first time. These tests measured performance against the objectives in the new, more challenging National Curriculum, introduced in September 2014. In these tests, pupil’s raw scores were converted into a scaled score to decide if pupils had met the expected standard for the end of the Key Stage. In writing, pupil’s attainment was assessed by teachers against an interim framework. A scaled score of 100 is needed to have achieved the expected standard (EXS). Pupils with a scaled score of 110 or above were considered to be working at a greater depth standard (GDS) at the end of Key Stage 1.

Data for 2016 cannot be compared to previous years, as the expectations for the end of the Key Stage has been raised. The previous National Curriculum levels are not comparable to scaled scores
